“… what you end up remembering isn't always the same as what you have witnessed. We live in time – it holds us and moulds us … ” Julian Barnes, The Sense of an Ending. Our identities are shaped by our memories; however, over time these recollections become malleable, distorted and glitched. The act of remembering is a performance, a retelling of our stories and thus is vulnerable to change. In this digital age, where photographs have become synonymous with our memories, I have used the repainting of moments and the amalgamation of past and present films to symbolise how memories deteriorate over time and therefore are rewritten.
