Skin-Shkn
Painting
Skin-Shkn looks at the evolution of art in broad terms, specifically the shift from realism to abstraction. Consisting of two sub-series of three paintings in ascending scale, the subject matter features the transformation of the skin of both a mother and a daughter. Skin is extremely fragile, intricate and complex and this is represented in the small, detailed works, before the subject matter gives way to flat planes of colour in the larger works. Details of skin, clear in the small compositions, simply become reference points for abstraction in the larger compositions.
