Watts generating What
Ceramics
Watts Generating What symbolises the need for a quick and easy way to get religious enlightenment in our lives. The light bulb inside the shrine, which is based on Christian triptych artworks and Buddhist cave temples, represents the figurative and literal idea of enlightenment being gained from simply ‘plugging in’ (in this case, to the power generator) to gain power, to gain enlightenment. The shrine itself is rustic, organic, heavy with handmade qualities, which contrasts with the new and industrial, machine-made power generator. Yet they both represent the same thing; a means of ‘seeing the light’, which could come in a spiritual or technological form.
