Impact celebrates the mesmerising qualities of nature in a way that is mindful of how environments are transforming in our Anthropocene era. This work charts literal and metaphorical ramifications of human activity, manipulating contrasting images to form collective meaning and perhaps a paradoxical beauty. I sought to establish tonal symmetry across the two images, emphasising a continuity between the ruinous human form/crater and the oily pollutant that bleeds into the adjacent water. The work evolved organically and was importantly open-ended; while my aesthetics have sinister undercurrents, the designs ultimately allow the viewer to form their own conclusions.
