Art Deco from the National Collection: The World Turns Modern
29 August – 8 November 2020
Comprised entirely of works selected from the NGA collection, Art Deco presents superb examples of Australian Vitalism. Artists include Rupert Bunny, Sonia Delaunay, Napier Waller, Margaret Preston and Harold Cazneaux.
Our K-6 education resource has been developed by Hazelhurst’s Public Programs & Education team and examines four works from the exhibition and includes teacher notes on the artists and artworks discussed, questions for discussion, suggested art making activities to try in the classroom, printable templates, a glossary of key words covered and a list of curriculum outcomes.
The Home

Hear from artists Tracey Clement and Christopher Zanko about their practice and work for our current exhibition The Home. These videos are accompanied by an educational resource for K-6 students which includes background on the artist, images of their works, discussion questions, links to curriculum outcomes and art making activities to try in the classroom or at home.

Art Fun K- 6 with Art Trail: Looking, Learning, Making
This workshop is a one-day excursion and includes an Art Trail, Art Making in the studio and can include Art in the Garden. Students have the opportunity to engage with original works of art and explore different media in one of Hazelhurst’s studios: printmaking, ceramics, mixed media, painting and drawing. Workshops will be based on current exhibitions or teachers can recommend a theme/ focus.
Fee per group: With Art Trail $360 (groups of 18 students). Please note that cost is $20 per student for groups of 18 or more. When groups are less than this number, the fee will be increased per student. More than 1 group can attend.
Art Trail
A self-directed activity aimed at appealing to the student’s sense of adventure and enquiry. Students view an exhibition, looking carefully at it to discover the story and answer the questions. Art Trail, clipboard and pencils provided.
Fee per student $3. Students in maximum groups of 10 per teacher/ parent supervisor.
Guided Discussion & Inquiry Based Activities
This one hour program is a discussion of the current exhibitions, looking at artworks, talking about what artists do and what they make. Through discussion students explore themes and investigate materials and techniques. Teachers can recommend a specific focus for discussion. Includes study materials, worksheets and back at school activities.
Fee per group $180 (maximum of 20 per group). Fee per student $9
More than 1 group can attend.
Art in the Garden
A 90 minute workshop, exploring drawing from nature in the wonderful Hazelhurst garden. Reference to any site specific works will be made and a garden trail is available.
Fee per student is $12 (maximum per group 20 students).
More than 1 group can attend.
Please note that cancellation of a booking within 2 weeks of an excursion will attract a cancellation fee of 25% of the minimum fee.
