Multi Block Wood Cut Printing
26 Oct 2019 - 27 Oct 2019
Based on the tradition of ancient Japanese woodblock printing and its unique registration method with a contemporary application.
Students will print using two different inking techniques: by hand with barens using traditional pigment technique and combined with relief inks and small brayers.
This relief printing technique uses non-toxic studio practices and all cleaning is done with water. Students will learn the printing process with an emphasis on technique and a variety of paper types.
Day one will include image preparation and transfer methods onto the block, demonstration of carving techniques and the maintenance and sharpening of tools. Day two will focus on printing with a discussion on the variety of papers available, the effective use of the paper as well as the link between paper and process.
