Monoprinting and Drypoint

9 Nov 2019 - 10 Nov 2019

Learn the basics of how to make a monoprint with artist Brenda Tye.

ENROL

This printmaking workshop utilises the processes of monoprinting, stencilling and dry point to create a series of prints that aim to help students visually communicate, develop and extend their concepts.

This workshop caters to both beginners and experienced printmakers. Students will learn the basics of how to make a monoprint both additive and subtractive, how to utilise a stencil for either its textural properties or as a flexible tool that extends the visual image making process, and the many ways to use line through dry point.

Students will learn how to combine these techniques into a series of unique state prints that exploit this combination through a flexible working process that utilises intuition while extending and developing a student's ideas.

Students are welcome to bring their own sketches, photos and ideas to work from or utilise the resources that Brenda will bring with her, focusing either on the body and anatomy or still life and nature.

The tutor, Brenda Tye, is a practising artist who enjoys the processes of printmaking, drawing and painting. Her practise uses observational and imaginative drawing to trigger both cultural and personal memory, exploring issues of identity, culture and the body.

A highly experienced art teacher of adults and children, Brenda Tye’s teaching covers from absolute beginners through to university level art students. She has been teaching in the degree program in the printmaking department at The National Art School for the last 9 years and has been running a series of monthly workshops through the member’s society at the AGNSW for over 15 years. She has collaborated and custom printed for many Sydney based artists including Peter Sharp, Idris Murphy, Ross Laurie, Dick Watkins and Christine Druitt-Preston.

Cost: $243. Class takes place from 10am - 4pm on both Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 of November 2019.
