Sutherland Shire Council will assist local community groups, charities and not for profit organisations by providing moderate financial assistance.

Grant amount: Moderate financial assistance from council for community based not for profit projects.

What the grant is for

One off, moderate miscellaneous grants provided under Section 356 of the Local Government Act.

Who can apply?

  • Local community groups.
  • Charities.
  • Not for profit organisations.

Who can't apply?

  • Educational facilities (eg, school).
  • Applicants seeking a grant for a sporting or cultural event or trip representing the Shire, state or nation.
  • If more than 1 application has been received from the same group that financial year.
  • If the application is from private individuals or commercial operators or companies conducting or participating in a fundraising activity for a charitable cause.

Applicant organisations arranging fundraising dinner functions/events may be provided an appropriate donation direct to their nominated charity in lieu of the purchase of group tables or individual seats at an event, unless councillors advise of their interest in attending the function.

How to apply

Online. Applications are accepted at any time but only considered quarterly by council in February, May, August and November. Applications received between these time frames will be held over to the next quarter.

Selection process

To optimise the benefits of funds to the community, grants are allocated in accordance with council's Miscellaneous Grant Applications under Section 356 Policy.

Council will not consider an application if details of the applicant and proposed expenditure have not been provided on the application.
