Homelessness Week 2020
As across all of NSW, Homelessness in the Sutherland Shire is on the rise with many people sleeping rough or in insecure accommodation. Census figures show that on a state level the number of homeless people in NSW has grown from 23,041 to 37,715 between 2001 and 2016, while locally there were 266 people homeless in the Sutherland Council on census night.
Due to Covid 19 pandemic, we are unable to organise any event during the Homelessness week (2nd - 8th August) this year. However, Homelessness Australia in partnership with Everybody's Home will be organising the Homelessness Week Launch - "Everybody Needs a Home" Event online on Monday 3rd August 2020 from 12 to 1:30 pm online and everyone is invited to attend.
There will be a panel of speakers including the Assistant Minister for Housing and Homelessness Luke Howarth, the Opposition spokesperson Jason Clare, plus building industry representatives from unions and companies.
