Community Development Strategy

The Draft Community Development Strategy aims to facilitate healthy, connected, caring, inclusive, resilient and liveable communities over the next 10 years.

The Strategy outlines four key outcomes contributing towards a caring, supportive and connected community, liveability and cultural vibrancy. Its purpose is to provide for the social wellbeing of the community by ensuring there are services, programs and facilities that support and enable all.

Community Service Mapping and Gap Analysis 

Comprehensive mapping of current community service providers in Sutherland Shire, analysed against the demographic profile of Wards and suburbs was unedrtaken to provide a comprehensive understanding of existing services and identify gaps in community service delivery.

Community Engagement

Council has worked closely with Sutherland Shire community to produce this Strategy, with over 500 people consulted in its development. From October 2019 to March 2020, Council’s Community Services undertook consultation with 7 interagencies and an open focus group to map trends, issues, needs and assets in the community, and ran an interactive planning workshop with nearly 60 local community service providers and four additional focus groups. In addition, a Community Services Survey was undertaken with 225 repondents.

The Community Engagement Report provides a summary of consultation undertaken and highlights key issues and themes related to community development that the Strategy aims to address.
