I have been a registered Family Day Care Educator with Sutherland Shire Council for more than 20 years, and I love what I do.

Initially, I began providing a service to local parents with demanding work hours, as I had the time to help out. There has also been a growing need to offer care outside of standard working hours, particularly for those parents working as flight attendants and service men and women. Family Day Care has been a wonderful way to provide care for my own children (then one and two years old) as well as others who were struggling to find care.

I thoroughly enjoy the experience of operating my own early education and care business as well as forming strong relationships and friendships with many families and children around the Shire. The children have taught me a lot over the years!

My husband and I have two wonderful adult children employed in the hospitality and building industries.

About my service

In keeping up-to-date with changes in the childcare industry and the Early Years Framework, I have attended numerous training opportunities as part of my professional development and will continue to attend many more.

I welcome multicultural communities and embrace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island families.  I can speak, read and write Greek and English and it’s not uncommon for the children to sing a Greek song or two.

I believe in a holistic approach to educating young children, teaching them through their own initiated play.

In our environment we are working towards a sustainable future.  We aim to use natural resources wherever possible.

The children have the opportunity to discover and explore as well as connect with our outdoor world and natural environment. They are able to use their senses as they learn through touch, taste and the smell of nature. Our worm farm is in a very healthy state as the children bring in food scraps from home.  They feel connected to this outdoors project.

About my facilities

We have a purpose-built early education learning room detached from the main house to meet the children’s needs.

The children are learning all the time, particularly given we spend a lot of time outdoors exploring in our sunny, covered backyard, whether it’s counting birds and butterflies or lizards to finding where they might be hiding.

Back indoors we have reverse cycle air conditioning to cater for all seasons and to keep us at a comfortable temperature while we explore indoors, sit for a puppet show or do some singing and dancing.  Rest and sleep times are dependent on the children’s individual needs.

Parent feedback is often sought and always welcomed. It is always taken into consideration when developing programs.
