I am a qualified early childhood professional with an Associate Diploma of Children's Services. My career spans almost 20 years caring for and educating young children. I have previously worked in long day care environments and joined the Sutherland Shire Council as a registered Family Day Care Educator in 2009.

I was raised in Engadine and continue to live here with my husband and our three children. Having young children myself, I initially established my Family Day Care service with the intent to work from home with a small group of children whilst caring for my own. I have been a Family Day Care Educator for more than five years now and although my own children have grown and headed off to school, I continue to thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to work in this small group setting. It is a delight to develop close relationships with the children and their families and help them grow into happy, confident individuals with great memories and friendships from their time in my service.

About my service

Family Day Care is a unique environment where children develop strong relationships with one Educator and a small group of children in a home environment. I believe it is important for each child to be valued, to feel happy and to feel secure within this environment, whilst developing close friendships within the group.

I believe that play is the basis for children’s learning and gives the best opportunities to learn and discover.

I provide a daily program for the children that is based on each child's interests and developmental goals.  I make regular written observations of each child to add to their individual journals. It is from this information that I am able to program a variety of challenging yet fun experiences to promote each child's learning and hands on exploration.

I have my own car that is able to transport all four children and has been professionally fitted with car seats to enable us to regularly visit Council's Playsession. Playsession is a great experience for children to meet with a larger group of children. Whilst at Playsession the children have opportunities to further explore and extend their development through a variety of play activities. The children have also enjoyed visits from Kindifarm, CSIRO - lab on legs, Bravehearts, the local librarian for book week,  Mini pets and many more organised incursions whilst at  Playsession.

About my facilities

My Family Day Care service is run out of my own home in Engadine. The children enjoy a large, brand new and light-filled indoor space with access to a wide range of toys and educational resources. The children also enjoy many planned activites throughout the day.  Our daily routine incorporates a variety of structured and free play activities, such as craft, play dough, blocks, puzzles, drawing, homecorner, outdoor play and group times with singing, games and story telling. There are also opportunities throughout the week where we visit the local park as well as attend regular visits to playsession with other Council Family Day Care Educators and the children in their care.

Outdoors, there is a large, level grassed area for enjoying many outdoor experiences, such as a sandpit, obstacles, hay bales for climbing, ball games, gardening and feeding and collecting eggs from my friendly pet chooks.  There is ample space for creative experiences such as, for example, a new scarecrow the children and I built recently.
