My experience in the early education and care sector spans more than 10 years. During this time I have thoroughly enjoyed working with children of all ages - from babies as young as two months old to primary school age children.
I spent many years working in Early Education Centres, and also as a private nanny in my early days while studying my Diploma of Children's Services.
I am delighted to start my own quality Family Day Care service with Sutherland Shire Council.
I have loved educating and spending time with children for as long as I can remember. Even as a young girl I knew early childhood education was the field for me. I began working in the profession the week after departing high school, working as a trainee and completing my Certificate III in Children’s Services.
On a personal note, I'm now a mum of two young children and have the amazing opportunity to build a business based around my passion of Early Childhood Education in my own home with my children alongside me.
About my service
Every child is an individual who learns at his or her own pace. I use a holistic approach to children’s learning, with a curriculum that is interest based and ever changing – providing endless opportunities for children to learn through play and extend their knowledge through intentional teaching practices.
I believe working with families is paramount in providing the best education and care possible. I want the families in my service to feel a complete sense of trust and comfort.
The daily routine is flexible and based around the individual needs of the children. Our indoor and outdoor program operating throughout the day will allow for structured and unstructured play opportunities. Structured learning includes activities such as group stories, games, cooking and gardening, as well as endless free play choices for the children using the resources around the room and outside.
About my facilities
I want the children and families to feel at home in my service, which is why we transformed the entire downstairs area into a dedicated Family Day Care space.
There is an open plan kitchen, living and play space which is bright and homely. The kitchen is blocked with a safety gate, prohibiting child access. Children have access to the bathroom which is equipped with toilet training props and hand washing facilities. The laundry is child proofed and contains a change table for nappy changes, as well as bathing facilities. I have a separate nursery with two cots for the babies, and a number of stretcher beds for the older children.
The play space provides numerous opportunities for children to learn through play. There is a home corner, a construction area, puzzles, fine motor activities, cognitive activities, a babies area with a play mat, bouncer and a number of trial and error and cause and effect toys. The lounge provides an opportunity for some quiet time with a story or two.
Outside there is a covered alfresco area with some quiet activities, an easel for painting and drawing, a table and chairs for messy play and a mat for the younger ones to play in the shade. In the yard there is so much to do! A junior trampoline, water trough, a cubby house with a slide attached and a number of large cars and bikes to ride around in are just some of the resources available.
There is also a vegie patch for the children to help tend to with their child-sized gloves, watering cans and gardening tools. The sandpit has a cover to provide shade while the children do some digging, cooking, constructing or enjoy some sensory play.
