There aren’t many things that beat the beauty of the sea, and as Australians the coastline undoubtedly holds a special place in our hearts. Alexander Housalas is a Sydney based photographer and Director who has pursued, among other things,  photography as a fine art endeavour. His latest project ‘Coast Dwellers’ is also his first solo exhibition, and it opens in the Broadhurst Gallery on Saturday 18 May.

This is an ongoing long term photographic project that started in 2015, where the initial motivation was relatively simple - to capture the influence of the sea on Australia culture and how it shapes our identity. The resulting work which has been captured can be described as “underwater street photography’. Alexander says “The same principals photographers have used on the streets for decades, have influenced my process of capturing those precise and decisive moments underwater.  Dive. Wait. Shoot. Try not to drown....” On until 28 May. Read more...
