Council has made provision for the allocation of funds for refurbishment of the Gymea Shopping Centre in 2010/2011, and has obtained matching grant funding under the Commonwealth Government's Community Infrastructure Program.
Council’s civil contractor has commenced works in June 2011. The shopping centre will be divided into two construction precincts, southern and northern, with Gymea railway Bridge as a divider. Works have commenced in the southern precinct and are programmed to continue in stages to the northern precinct in April 2012. The Shopping Centre upgrade is scheduled for completion in October 2012, weather permitting.
Council also produces an ongoing newsletter detailing the current progress of works and proposed works for upcoming stages. These newsletters are distributed to all Gymea businesses, and can also be found displayed on site with the masterplan board.
