Emma Thomson - Made in the Shire

26 Mar 2011 - 8 May 2011

A photographic exhibition featuring couples from the Sutherland Shire

"It's you, you're the one, kiss me, kiss me darling and when we get older it will just be you and me forever together." Puberty Blues, 1981.

Thirty years on from the cult surfie movie Puberty Blues, Made in the Shire is the product of Sydney-based artist Emma Thomson's residency at Hazelhurst.

Seeking models in the papers, the advertisements attracted some of the Shire's desperate romantics and high school sweethearts who were all willing participants in the collaborative process.

Emma Thomson is a Sydney based photographic and video artist. In 2008 she completed a BFA Honours degree majoring in Photography at the National Art School, Sydney. She has exhibited in a number of national group exhibitions and has won several prizes including the 2007 Storrier Onslow National Art School Paris Studio Residency, a finalist in the 2009 National Photographic Portrait Prize and a recipient of the 2010 ArtStart Grant Australia Council for the Arts. Thomson's work is profiled at www.emmathomson.com.au
