Education

Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre offers creative and skills based education programs for primary and secondary students. Programs compliment exhibitions in the regional gallery, explore the beautiful landscaped gardens and make use of the art studio facilities. Hazelhurst's education programs are generously supported by Principal Partner, Veolia Transport.

Education Programs K – 6

Education programs are designed to give students opportunities for creative expression and learning experiences. Please  note  that cancellation  of  a  booking  within  2  weeks  of  an  excursion  will  attract  a cancellation fee of 25% of the minimum fee. Programs include:

 

Art Fun K- 6 with Art Trail: Looking, Learning, Making

This workshop is a one-day excursion and includes an Art Trail, Art Making in the studio and can include Art in the Garden.   Students have the opportunity to engage with original works of art and explore different media in one of Hazelhurst’s studios: printmaking, ceramics, mixed media, painting and drawing. Workshops will be based on current exhibitions or teachers can recommend a theme/ focus.

Fee per group: With Art Trail $306 (groups of 18 students). Please note that cost is $17 per student for groups of 18 or more. When groups are less than this number, the fee will be increased per student.  More than 1 group can attend.

Art Trail

A self directed activity aimed at appealing to the student’s sense of adventure and enquiry. Students view an exhibition, looking carefully at it to discover the story and answer the questions. Art Trail, clipboard and pencils provided.

Fee per student $3. Students in maximum groups of 10 per teacher/ parent supervisor.

Guided Discussion & Inquiry Based Activities

This one hour program is a discussion of the current exhibitions, looking at artworks, talking about what artists do and what they make. Through discussion students explore themes and investigate materials and techniques. Teachers can recommend a specific focus for discussion. Includes study materials, worksheets and back at school activities.

Fee per group $160 (maximum of 20 per group). Fee per student $8.00. More than 1 group can attend.

Art in the Garden

A one hour workshop, exploring drawing from nature in the wonderful Hazelhurst garden. Reference to any site specific works will be made and a garden trail is available.

Fee per student is $11 (maximum per group 20 students). More than 1 group can attend.

This one hour program is an engaging and interactive discussion of the current exhibitions with at least one work used as a key to theme/frame/process. Includes study materials and work sheets.

Fee per group: $200 (20 students per group). More than 1 group can attend.

Art on Screen 7 – 12

Some exhibitions provide opportunities for learning links to be made with screen culture. Documentaries, feature films, shorts and animations are used to broaden the significance of artworks exhibited in the Regional Gallery. Exhibition tour, discussion of key works and film screening. Duration: 2 hours.

Fee per group: $200. Maximum 20 students per group. More than 1 group can attend.

Digital ARTS 7 – 12

The new Media Studio at Hazelhurst is available for groups of up to 7 students. Digital arts workshops give students practical experience of the digital arts in a variety of forms including video, animation, web page making, design and photography. Workshops for teacher or student groups include: Digital Portrait (Photoshop or Illustrator), Digital Imaginings (Photoshop or Illustrator) Digital Basics: cameras, scanners, software, and the possibilities of digital media.

Fee per student: $48. Limited to 7 students per session.  Duration: 4 hours.

Life Drawing 9 – 12

Students experience the artist studio, drawing from a draped model. This workshop includes study materials on life drawing and drawing materials.

Fee per group $315. Maximum 15 students. Duration: 2 hours.

Art Study and Workshop 9 – 12

A  guided  study  of  the  exhibition  designed  to  demystify  art  making  processes  and explore the syllabus frames with reference to key artworks on exhibition. Art making workshop, guided discussion, exploring practical skills and materials, led by an art educator and practitioner.

Fee  per  group:  $300.  Group  of  20  students.  More  than  1  group  can  attend. Duration: 2 1/2 hours.

FREE VEOLIA BUSES FOR SCHOOLS

Visit Hazelhurst on a Monday or Tuesday and schools in the Sutherland Shire and some areas of the St George region can take advantage of free bus travel for their excursion. Book early as there are only 3 buses available each week.
