Pottery for beginners
A general introduction to hand building and wheel techniques. This course is designed for absolute beginners and those with some experience. Students will learn the processes of clay preparation, forming, application of underglaze, glaze and firing. Enjoy learning how to use clay in a relaxed and friendly environment. Learn the basics of making your own bowls with a creative touch.

If you have already experienced the medium, you will be able to extend your skills with expertise provided in many techniques. This is a course designed both for beginners and for those students with some knowledge of the wheel. The student will improve their throwing and turning skills, with particular attention to weight and form. Be guided on the path to continual improvement through practice and self-assessment. Work with one of the Shire's most experienced practitioners who can assist with improving your knowledge and skills.

This class is about having fun with clay and is designed specifically for beginners and continuing students. Enjoy using various clay techniques to create functional or non-functional ceramic art. Hand building methods can be used to form sculptural works of art and decorative pots, or you may just like to go wild on the wheel. In this class, you can develop the skills needed to craft just about anything with clay while enjoying the process of making ceramic art.

Mosaics
Mosaic is a contemporary art form with ancient roots and a rich cultural heritage. Mosaics can be functional or decorative works of art. From simple geometric patterns to intricate motifs, the design possibilities are endless. In this course, you will complete one small and one larger project, or three smaller projects - possibilities include a house number, trivet, lampshade, indoor or outdoor table, pot, mirror or photo frame. One lesson will also be devoted to making and painting your very own ceramic tiles. You will also need to provide or purchase tools, which will be discussed on the first session.
